Ice skating
You Can Participate with Many Types of Skates
At the Finland Ice Marathon, you can participate with your own familiar skates – there is no need to purchase special racing skates for the event. Suitable options include traditional figure skates and hockey skates, as well as touring skates and speed skates.
The choice of skates depends on your skating style, goals and experience. Traditional skates are an easy way to join the event and give it a try, while touring and speed skates are well suited for efficient skating over longer distances.
The most important thing is that your skates are comfortable, suitable for you and safe to use. At the Finland Ice Marathon, you can enjoy skating on natural ice with the equipment that feels most natural to you.
A helmet is mandatory. Other protective equipment is optional. Remember to dress warmly – the wind on the ice can make it feel quite chilly!
The 10–50 km skating distances are accessible to everyone, and you can easily participate with figure skates or hockey skates. As long as your skates move you forward!
The 100 km skating distance requires some training and better skating technique.
