Virtual Finland Ice Marathon 2021

Finland Ice Marathon will be held in as a virtual event. The competition period from February 1 to February 28, 2021

Report each of your achievements to the registration system - see the link in your email

You can participate in five different sports. In all of these sports, you will participate in a draw.

  • Family skating (family size is not limited)
    • The purpose of family skating is to encourage the family to move together on the ice!
    • Please move on ice only with your own core family
    • In family skating, each participant will receive a commemorative medal. The commemorative medal can be picked up after the event. Please note, we do not post awards abroad
  • Skating
  • Skating with poles
  • Studd cycling
  • Kick sledding
  • Running with studded shoes

When you register for the race, you will receive a link in your email that will allow you to record your performance. You can also mark your performance via the link. The link can be found in your email (see also spam). Report each of your performances to the registration system (series, mileage and place of performance). The three most kilometers in each series will be viewed through our registration system. So it is important that you report the correct kilometers to our system.

According to the new regulations and recommendations of the Regional Administration of Eastern Finland (AVI) (20 January 2021), it is more responsible and sensible to organize natural ice skating events in 2021 in a slightly different way than in previous years. AVI continued its meeting restrictions in Eastern Finland until February 22, 2021. Public events and general meetings of more than 20 people are prohibited until 22 February 2021.




About Finland Ice Marathon

Finland Ice Marathon is one of first ice-skating events on natural rink. The race centre is located in the harbour of Kuopio, catering to participants with activities and comprehensive facilities. 

The course is made on the natural ice of Kallavesi. The lap lasts 8km, depending on weather conditions

In 2019, over 700 participants from 15 different countries took part in the marathon.

In 2020, Mokkemaraton (Goalie Maraton) charity event joined on Saturday. The idea of Mokkemarathon was to collect money to Kuopio Päihdepalvelusäätiölle (Kuopio’s Substance Abuse Foundation). The purpose of the Substance Abuse Foundation is to prevent and reduce substance abuse and other addiction problems and related marginalization in the Kuopio region. 

Route description

The course is made on the natural ice of Kallavesi. (weather conditions permitting). A new addition is ice biking 100 km, 50 km and 25 km.

Lake Kallavesi is part of the Kuopio and Savo identity. Lake Kallavesi is home of Finland Ice Marathon which is one of Finland's oldest ice skating events on natural ice.

One-of-a-kind experience on the ice

The course is made on the natural ice of Kallavesi. From middle of January until beginning of March, you can ice skate, cycle or kick sled in heart of Finnish lakeland.

Moonlight skating

Don’t miss out ice skating under moonlight. The rink will be decoretad with Finnish fire logs and picture-taking opportunities. The night will culminates in a fireworks.
